When I purchased the Vision S02 cage 5 years ago, I was looking for an easy to clean cage that would reduce seed & feather spillage - onto my floor and surrounding the cage area. This cage delivered that and so. much. more.
1. I love that the double cage can be reduced down to the S01 size for transport and/or quarantine.
2. The externally accessible perches are great for nervous budgies! I have been able to remove each one for cleaning with minimal disturbance to my budgies, and attaching them to the cage from the outside makes changing the cage decor a snap. Of course, to hang other toys and chewables, I have to get into the cage, but it means less time with my hands invading the budgies space.
3. Having two cage doors side by side, with no vertical bar interrupting the space has been a life saver! I love being able to use one side for a nesting box or bath for the budgies while still retaining use of the other door. Even if I am unable to open it out, the doors will open into the cage and hold at a 90 degree angle. This makes a great "landing area" for my budgies and encouraged them to exit the cage for exercise. Truly, I have never seen another cage offer the flexibility and well thought out door design.
4. Feed cups: Wow! This is probably one of my favorite features. Not only are the seed/water cups protected near the bottom of the cage by the plastic base, but there are two shield guards that reduce debris falling into the cups. In addition, there are side doors for accessing the food without disturbing the birds ...and without the falling metal "doors" that other bird cages sport. I don't know about anyone else, but my budgies learn that noise and then make a sport out of lifting and dropping those feeder doors. I've even seen my budgie escape that way.
5. The removable base. I feel like each feature on this cage is my favorite, but finding a completely detachable base in a bird cage was an epiphany. I love being able to set the entire cage to the side while I clean the base and refresh the liner. It makes cleaning so much easier! No more hulls and feathers being lost on the base while I pull out the liner tray. No more spills on the floor from that one spot where my birds seem to pile up their food. Almost every part of the cage is removable, making cage cleaning an absolute breeze!
I have used this cage for two budgies, and the only downside I have found is that the cage is so much taller than it is wide. I knew this going in to the purchase, but even with this downside, the Vision S02 has been wonderful for my two budgies. I have never been happier with a cage purchase than I have with the Hagen Vision. I absolutely can't recommend it enough. For those who are attempting to put larger birds in this type of cage, I would suggest going to the Hagen website for more details about the recommended types of birds to house in what cages.
I have recently purchased a few more budgies, so the S02 is small for my flock. But it has been a great excuse to order the L02 which has a wider base and can accomodate 5 budgies comfortably.
